On this day in 1945 the Don Juan of fly-halves, Welsh great, Barry
John was born. Sporting sensational side-burns, John was imperious exercising his
genius talents in almost faultless manner. A fabulous kicker blessed with supernatural
running skills, John’s innate instincts could see him nip through the tightest midfield
gaps. Nicknamed ‘The King,’ he even quit the game at 27 – at the peak of his powers.
What a legend!

On this day in 1540, King Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves, his fourth wife. In 1781,
the French tried to invade the Channel Island of Jersey (they lost again).In 1977,
music publishing giants EMI sacked the infamous Sex Pistols because of their disorderly
behaviour at Heathrow Airport.
