Gibbs returns to bolster Cobras

Herschelle Gibbs returns to the Cape Cobras team for their match against the Titans at Willowmoore Park today.

The international opening batsman will strengthen a team humiliated by the Eagles in Kimberley last week in the opening round of Supersport provincial cricket matches. Gibbs, who was included in the South African limited-overs squad this week, is one of four nationally contracted players turning out for their provinces. Titans will have Albie Morkel back in their side. He has been struggling with a shoulder injury. Morkel was included in the Proteas ODI squad and the Twenty20 squad. Neil McKenzie, who was injured last week, returns to lead the Highveld Lions against the Dolphins while Makhaya Ntini spearheads the Warriors attack against the Eagles. Last weekend, Alviro Petersen led the Lions in McKenzie’s absence, scoring centuries in both innings and leading the team to victory over the Warriors. Hashim Amla remains sidelined by an ankle injury, suffered during the ODI series in England, while Graeme Smith is still recovering from his elbow injury. He is expected to recover in time for the one-day series against Bangladesh, starting on November 5. Smith said yesterday that he was no longer suffering any pain and was able to get fully involved in his fitness and training schedule.

Starting Today: Willowmoore Park: Titans vs Cape Cobras Kingsmead: Dolphins vs Highveld Lions St George’s: Warriors vs Diamond Eagles
